Road Safety And Drug Awareness
N.S.S. Cell of Punjab Agricultural University today organized a seminar in PAL AUDITORIUM, P.A.U. on very thought-provoking subjects of Road Safety & Drug Abuse. Aim of this seminar was to spread awareness among the Students about the road safety and drug addiction. Neglecting the traffic rules & regulation and falling easy victims to drug abuse, both are dangerous for our future generations, so for spreading the awareness among the students, N.S.S. Cell of P.A.U. Organized this seminar where Preeti Kansal, Founder & General Secretary of AAGAZ Charitable Foundation delivered speech on ‘Awareness on Road Safety as well as Drug Abuse’
On this occasion was present Dean, College Of Home Science P.A.U. Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Grewal and N.S.S. Cell Co-ordinator Dr. (Mrs.) Dhawan. Around 300 N.S.S. Students of P.A.U. attended this seminar.
While addressing audience, Ms. Kansal told that today we need to make our upcoming generations to be healthy, aware and responsible citizens but they are not getting the proper guidance and there are no ideal role-models for students. She revealed very striking facts about drug abuse as she told that in Punjab villages Drugs are easily available and common word that “JAHAJ AA GAYA HAI” (THE PLANE HAS LANDED), brings cheer to drug addicts including men, women and boys, addicted to “bhukki” (poppy husk). a recent study on drug abuse revealed that the percentage of households affected by drug abuse was 61 in majha, 64 in malwa and 68 in doaba.

Further she highlighted on increasing number of road accidents which is jeopardizing lives of our future generations as teenagers are not very keen to follow traffic rules. This Plight of neglecting traffic rules starts from procuring the driving license till driving a vehicle on the road. Daily we hear of plethora of road accidents which occur because of the unawareness of traffic rules among the students as well as all people of society. She revealed an eye-opening data regarding the deaths in road accidents as there happened 1, 14,590 deaths in 2007 i.e. 13 deaths per hour. Further she advised present students and audience in seminar to follow traffic rules and to stay away from Drugs. |
